GCIBOT CONDUCTS EYE TEST FOR GCI NEW STUDENTS
In continuation of its commitment to safeguarding the health and academic success of its students, the Board of Trustees of Government College Ibadan (GCI) on Friday, 26th September 2025, hosted a special medical outreach in collaboration with the Ophthalmology Department of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.
The exercise, held at the GCI Museum, was part of the Resumption Day Medical Examination for the newly admitted JSS 1 and JSS 2 students. The visiting medical team, led by the Head of Department, Dr. Ologundudu, arrived on campus by 8:00 a.m. and conducted a comprehensive round of eye screening for all the new students.
Following the initial tests, some students were scheduled for further examinations, while appropriate medications were prescribed where necessary. In addition, members of the teaching and non-teaching staff who expressed interest were also screened, with corrective lenses provided free of charge to those in need.
Speaking on the initiative, representatives of the Board noted that the program was designed not only to promote the well-being of students but also to enhance effective learning. “Proper eye care is essential in ensuring that our students are healthy, comfortable, and properly positioned in class for maximum academic engagement,” they emphasized.
It is noteworthy that this intervention builds on earlier efforts by the GCI Sick Bay, which, with the generous support of the 1968 and 1982 Sets of the Government College Ibadan Old Boys’ Association (GCIOBA), conducted medical examinations for the new students on Sunday, 14th September 2025. That session covered Body Mass Index (BMI) checks, temperature monitoring, as well as tests for malaria, hepatitis, and typhoid.
The Board of Trustees reaffirmed its dedication to sustaining such health-focused initiatives, recognizing that the physical and mental wellness of students remains central to maintaining GCI’s tradition of excellence in academics and character formation.
