Government College Ibadan Resumes Residential Admission Interview
Government College Ibadan (GCI) led by GCIBOT (GCI Board of Trustees), in collaboration with the Old Boys Association, has successfully resuscitated the traditional/historical admission process. This is sequel to the MOU agreement between the Oyo State Government (OYSG) and the GCI Old Boys Association (GCIOBA). The process, comprising an examination followed by residential interview process, reaffirms its commitment to academic excellence and holistic student development. The recently conducted interview exercise aimed to select the most promising candidates from a pool of 340 shortlisted students.
After the Old Boys Association of Government College Ibadan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Oyo State Government to manage, operate, and develop the esteemed educational institution, the association took on the task of reviving the traditional admissions interview process. This decision, driven by the desire to maintain the school's prestigious reputation for excellence, marked a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of education provided at the college.
The process began with an entrance examination administered on May 20, 2023, where approximately 500 aspiring students demonstrated their academic abilities. 340 of these students successfully passed the examination and were subsequently shortlisted for the residential admission interview/screening exercise.
To facilitate the comprehensive evaluation of the shortlisted candidates, Government College Ibadan provided the students with accommodation in the school's well-equipped boarding house facility. From June 15 to 17, 2023, the candidates underwent a rigorous screening exercise comprising various programs designed to assess their overall potential. Catering facilities were also provided at the Lalekan Are Hall.
The screening exercise encompassed a range of activities, including invigorating morning exercises and focused lectures on ICT, English, and Mathematics. The organizers placed great emphasis on the holistic development of the students, ensuring that they were provided with nutritious meals throughout their stay.
The successful candidates will be notified in due course and all the new entrants are expected to resume in the Boarding house at the commencement of the 2023/2024 Academic year.
Mr. Remi Adelabu, the Principal of Government College Ibadan, addressed the students at the GCIOBA House just before lunch on Thursday, June 15, 2023. He emphasized the significance of their convergence and outlined the essence of the admissions interview process. He urged the students to participate fully in the exercise, exhibit exemplary behavior and assured them that their welfare would be well taken care of during their time at the school.
The resumption of the residential admissions interview process, which was last conducted in 1976, reflects the collective efforts of Government College Ibadan's Old Boys Association and the school administration to uphold the institution's standards of excellence. By providing a comprehensive evaluation platform that goes beyond academic performance, the school aims to identify well-rounded individuals who possess the potential to contribute meaningfully to the society.
As the screening exercise concludes and the final selection process commences, Government College Ibadan, under the guidance of the Old Boys Association, eagerly anticipates welcoming a new cohort of exceptional students into its esteemed community. The dedication and commitment demonstrated by the association and the school administration underscore their shared commitment to maintaining Government College Ibadan's position as a citadel of learning, academic distinction and leadership grooming.
