CLASS OF 1991 SEPTEMBER SET�S YEARLY ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION AND INTERSCHOOL DEBATE AT GCI TAKES PLACE

image The eminent set of 1991 September of Government College Ibadan on Monday, 21st March, 2022, held her annual essay writing competition and interschool debate.

This essay writing competition which involved students from SSS 1 and SSS2 classes which lasted for 45 minutes and started around 8:00am was themed: �Nigeria Natural Resources is a Blessing or Curse.�

The competition which took place at the newly renovated English lecture theatre by the set, had a total number of 36 participants, which were the best 3 students in English from each of the 6 arms of the classes that took part.

After the essay writing competition was the Inter school Debate between the 2 Junior Schools of GCI, which took place at the Assembly hall of GCI. It was titled "Social Media; A Bad Influence Among Teenagers."
The HOD of Languages and Linguistics Dept., Mrs. Shobo served as the Chief Judge, while two other officers in the department, Mr. Akanni and Mr. Adebiyi of the same Department were part of the Panel of Judges.

At the end of the debate, Olaniran Ibrahim and his supporting speakers from Junior School 1, who pitched their presentation against the motion won with 337 points while Esuola Timothy and his supporting speakers from Junior School II came second with 332 points. The winners as well as their tutors were rewarded.

The event was spiced by a Spelling Bee which was moderated by Dipo Adewunmi (Swanston, 9035), a member of 91 September�s set�s in which Olamide Olawunmi, Asiwaju Omobolaji and Eze Benedict got rewarded for spelling the words dictated to them correctly.
The Principal of Senior School, Mr. P A Awodiran thanked the set for their consistency with the program, he remarked that it would help sharpen the students� brains and prepare them to be good orators.

Niyi Olayiwola lauded the students and their tutors for a job well done. He urged the students who have access to social media already, to put it to positive use and not allow corruption to set into them from there.

Also present at the program were Mr. Oloyede O. A and Mr. Olapade T. O, the Principals of Junior School 1 and 2 respectively. Niyi Olayiwola (), Vice Chairman (Ibadan), 1991 September Set, David Olayiwola (), Secretary of the set and some other members of staff.
Recall that the maiden edition of the program held last year with Junior School 1 coming first and School II, second.
