THE FALADES DONATE CRICKET EQUIPMENT TO GCI

The month of February started on a beautiful note as the children of the late G.O.A. Falade extended their kind gesture to Government College Ibadan by donating Cricket kits and equipment, worth millions of Naira to their Alma Mater, on Tuesday, 1st of February, 2022.

The brand new and high-class Cricket kits and equipment worth millions of Naira were presented to the School at the new Cricket Oval where the Falades - Wole Olulade, Leye Falade and Gbite Falade, as well as the distinguished Nigerian Cricketer with colours, Kolade Mosuro (Carr, 1964), GCIOBA National Treasurer, Akin Orowale (Field, 1968), Ife Egbedayo (1983), Pastor Simeon Oladele - Former GCI Principal, Mr. Peter Awodiran - GCI Principal, Mr. John - GCI Cricket Coach, and other members of Staff and students of GCI were all in attendance.

Pastor Oladele remarked that the kind gesture shown by the Falades was not surprising to him as their former teacher as they had showed sterling attributes during their days as students of GCI.

Kolade Mosuro (Carr, 1964) commended the Falades for their thoughtfulness in recognizing the game of Cricket as a gentleman's game that helps build character, and camaraderie, as well as using the golden privilege to give back to their Alma Mater that nurtured them and in remembrance of their late father - Mr. G.O.A. Falade who through his dints of hard work, diligence and professionalism had his name inked in gold in the annals of history of Government College Ibadan.

He further narrated the story of the hand injury sustained by Leye Falade at a Cricket match played in Lagos in the 80's, which took him to Shell hospital, and how the ambience of Shell Hospital motivated him to study hard and work for Shell. A dream that came true for Leye.

The GCIOBA elder statesman delivered the apologies of Dr Jide Bademosi and conveyed the wishes of the Skipper to the Falades. Kolade Mosuro charged the GCI students to imbibe the culture of giving back to their Alma Mater, and also to make life-long friendship from the game of Cricket, and learn gentlemanliness, as Cricket is a game of character building.

Kolade Mosuro (Carr, 1964) also advised the GCI Cricket Coach, Mr. John to instill maintenance culture in the GCI Cricketers. He used the opportunity to announce the 2022 Jide Bademosi Cricket Cup Competition coming up in the month of March, at Liberty Stadium. He urged GCI Cricketers to ensure that the Cup remains in GCI.

Wole Falade (1979) in his remarks mentioned it that the value of each item is not its worth, but what the students make of it. He charged them to turn the equipment into something that will not only turn them around for good, fame and excellence but the society at large. He urged the students to conquer the world on behalf of GCI with the equipment.

He thanked the GCI Management for their support thus far.

The GCIOBA National Treasurer, Akin Orowale (1968) recalled the days of Mr. Falade as a Geography teacher in 1974 when he took them to Enugu on an excursion. He noted that his diligence and hard work were responsible for his A in Geography in his O levels. He thanked the Falades for their concerted efforts in repositioning GCI, especially in the area of sports, to excellence.

The Principal, on behalf of the entire members of staff and students of GCI, appreciated the Falades for availing their hard earned resources to the development of Cricket at their Alma Mater. He assured the donors of a proper care and safety of the kits and equipment.
