BABALAKIN COMMENDS 91 SEPTEMBER SET AS THEY CELEBRATE 30 YEARS OF POST-ADMISSION ANNIVERSARY
The National President of Government College Ibadan Old Boys Association, Dr. Bolanle Olawale Babalakin (SAN) (2273, Grier, 1971) has commended the 1991 September Set for their developmental programmes in Government College Ibadan, he lauded the Set for being one of those that has stood up to ensure that GCI remains relevant and that the students have an enabling environment. He called on the younger sets to emulate them.
Babalakin, who was represented by one-time Oyo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Oluseun Abimbola (SAN) (4641, Carr, 1981) at the 30th anniversary luncheon of the 1991-September Set that held on Saturday, 18th September, 2021, at the Lalekan Are Hall, GCIOBA House, Government College Ibadan, appreciated the Set for keying into the vision of restoring the lost glory of the school. He called on the government of the state to prioritize education.
Abimbola said although many sectors needs the Government�s attention, they should not relegate education because of its importance to the peace and development of the country.
The Celebrants inaugurated the newly renovated English language lecture theatre and English Department, they awarded scholarships to some students and also awarded some of their former teachers to mark the anniversary.
The Chairman, Anniversary Committee, Adeola Awonusi (9026, Grier, 1991-Sept), said that the newly renovated lecture theatre and English department building would in October, be commissioned, among other projects.
The keynote speaker, Mr. Olukayode Ariyo, MD, CEO Global Accelerex, who spoke on the theme, �Disruption to profit: Fintech and opportunities for the Nigerian entrepreneur,� said technology had changed business transactions generally.
Ariyo said entrepreneurs must always follow the trend or risk their businesses running down.
Earlier, the chairman of the Class, Kolade Enitinwa (9193, Carr, 1991-Sept), lauded members of Class of 1991, September set, for their support and giving back to their former school despite the harsh economic situation in the country.
He said, �We continued the renovation work on our 30th anniversary project by procuring and installing a 92-seater lecture theatre style furniture in preparation for its inauguration, we organized two impactful seminars with relevant topic of discussions as, From Idea to profit: What does the Nigeria Entrepreneur need to fix and Entrepreneurial success: Reasons for failure and remedies for growth, anchored by two seasoned facilitators.
�Also, we launched a website (www.gcioba91sept.org.ng(link is external)) integrated with Paystack for seamless payment of annual dues and other subscriptions. Today, we will unveil our Hybrid Scholarship Initiative which will basically provide succor for two boys (Masters Elechi Ifeanyichukwu and Kolawole Emmanuel) and Miss Esther Adeniji in its first instance.
�The boys have provisional admissions to study law at the University of Ibadan and Microbiology at Obafemi Awolowo University respectively and had won our previous overall best students awards category.
�We would sponsor tuition throughout their study. Also, we will give awards to the overall best students for 2020/2021 academic year and five of our former teachers who contributed significantly to our growth when we journeyed through GCI.�
