ipNX on Behalf of Oyo State Government Donates Free Internet Service to GCI
Students and members of Government College Ibadan can now access free internet service at the ICT room of the school. This was made possible by ipNX - a reputable and foremost internet service provider in Nigeria, as part of her Corporate Social Responsibility for Education Programme.
This novel project was officially commissioned on Thursday, 8th October, 2020 at the School Assembly Hall by the Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde ably represented by the Chief of Staff of the Pacesetter State, Chief Oyebisi Ilaka who is also an Old Boy of Government College Ibadan, precisely a member of 1973-January Set.
Chief Bisi Ilaka in his Brief Remarks shed more light on the history of the project and noted that the Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Adebisi Sonubi (Field, 1973-January) who is also an Old Boy of GCI was instrumental to having Oyo State a beneficiary of the project, and by extension Government College Ibadan. He appreciated ipNX on behalf of the Oyo State Governor for their top-notch service delivery and outstanding public-private partnership; and later commissioned the project to the glory of God, and good people of Oyo State.
Present at the launching ceremony which was compered by Mr. Adekunle, Principal, GCI Junior School I; were the Oyo State Honourable Commissoner of Education, Science & Technology, Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye alongside the Ministry's Permanent Secretary, Alhaja Atere; Mrs Bimpe Olaleye - Group Executive Director, Commercials; Mrs Shade Efiong-Bassey - Group Executive Director, HR & Corporate Services; both from ipNX; Special Adviser to the Oyo State Government on ICT and E-governance, Mr. Adebayo; Principal, Bishop Philips Academy, Monatan, Ibadan - Mr Akinwale; principal officers, staff and students of the host school, and other distinguished guests.
Mr. Adebayo, the Special Adviser to the Oyo State Government on ICT and E-governance, in his Brief Remarks announced that the free internet service facility worths 10mbps and will be enjoyed for 5 years.
In his speech, the Oyo State Commissioner of Education reiterated the commitment of the Engr Seyi Makinde led administration to ensuring that education is not only delivered within the shores of classrooms but also at homes and everywhere, whereby students at home can watch their teachers teach and submit their assignments and have it marked, while results and corrections are returned; all virtually and electronically. He appreciated ipNX for choosing Oyo State as a beneficiary of the laudable project.
The Principal of Government College Ibadan, Mr. Adewale Oluwole in his Welcome Address mentioned it that the gains from the use of the internet facility cannot be overemphasised as students will now have smooth access to current information in text, audio, graphics, and video forms on various subjects from experts across the globe. He thanked the Oyo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology for founding GCI worthy of the free internet facility. He used the medium to humbly request the Oyo State Government to continually support the growth and development of Government College Ibadan with similar laudable projects.
Mr. Akinwale, the Principal of Bishops Phillips Academy, Monatan, Ibadan gave the Closing Remarks; and appreciated the kind gesture of ipNX, and also thanked the Oyo State Government for the privilege given to Bishop Phillips Academy and Government College Ibadan - the pilot schools for the Free Internet Service Project in Oyo State.
