GCI Wins The 2019 Under-13 South West Hockey Foundation Tournament

image Government College Ibadan rules South West Hockey sport again.

The duo of Peace Oduwaye and Abdulbasit Suadad of Government College Ibadan defeated their counterparts - Favour Onabajo and Okikijesu Adebayo of Bethel Comprehensive College in a keenly contested final match with 3 goals to one. The 2 A-side hockey tournament was hosted by Government College Ibadan and featured 25 teams across the south western states of Nigeria.

The 2-day event held between 8th and 9th April, 2019 at the Skills Arena, Government College Ibadan featured both male and female hockey challenge. Amongst the 25 male teams that participated at the event were Bethel Comprehensive College, Ibadan; International College of Arts, Science & Technology, Ibadan; Loyola College, Ibadan; Holy Trinity Secondary School, Ibadan; Ado Grammar School, Ekiti State; Lisabi Junior School, Ogun State; and Aquinas College, Ondo State.

Trophies were presented to the winners in both categories while medals were given to all participants. The best male hockey player and best female hockey player went home with scholarship awards.

It would be recalled that Government College Ibadan won the second edition of the tournament in 2018 and has won all the three editions of the tournament since its inception in 2017.

The Organiser and GCI Hockey Team Gaffer, Oluyemi Siyanbola; who is also an Old Boy of Government College Ibadan in a media briefing mentioned it that the purpose of the tournament is to identify artistic talents in secondary school younger teens, build the skills and nurture them to become world class professionals. He thanked the management of the host school for availing him their resources to successfully host the tournament.
