Thursday, 28th of February, 2019 was a day of sheer bliss in the heart of both Old Boys and students of Government College Ibadan as the defunct The Rock Magazine was revived courtesy of the 1991-September Set of Government College Ibadan Old Boys Association.
The magazine was relaunched on 28th of February, 2019 - a date commemorating the 90th anniversary of the school during the 80th Inter House Athletics Competition of the school at the School Main Pitch, BCGA.
The 24-page well packaged magazine was a publication of GCI Press Club sponsored by the 1991-September Set under the chairmanship of Kola Enitinwa. The magazine featured topical issues, articles, interviews, poems, discoveries & inventions, riddles & jokes, and educational contributions from members of the Press Club, JETS Club; Languages, Mathematics & Civics Departments, Executive members of 1991-September Set; alongside a pictorial panorama.
In attendance at the relaunching event were Abayomi Oke (1979) - the Oyo State Honourable Commissioner of Youth and Sports, Mrs C.O. Bolaji - the Director of Schools, Ministry of Education, Science & Technology; Tola Obembe (1978) - the First National Vice - President, GCIOBA, Yinka Adepoju (1971) - National Social Socretary, GCIOBA; Dr Tunde Odekunle - GCI Principal, Bazuaye Alloysius - GCIOBA Assistant General Secretary I and Immediate Past Chairman of 1991 September Set, Kola Enitinwa - 1991 September Set Chairman and many other distinguished Old Boys.
The 1991-September Set Chairman, Kola Enitinwa in his message noted that the dire need for extra curricular clubs in the school necessitated the revitalization of the School's Press Club and Junior Engineering and Technicians' Club (JETS Club) which have thus become the Pet project of the Set. He added that the adoption of the Press Club was to showcase the literary prowess of GCI boys and encourage artistic endeavours by publishing once again, the hitherto rested The Rock Magazine.
