Victor Abiodun (1956), Godfrey Preware (1956), Osagie Ehanire (1959) and Dele Makanjuola (1965) Get GCIOBA National Merit Award.

At the 89th Anniversary and 2018 Annual Reunion of Government College Ibadan Old Boys Association held between 19th and 20th of October, 2018 at the school grounds, four different Old Boys were honoured with the GCIOBA (National) Merit Award 2018 and admitted to the GCIOBA Roll of Honour.

First on the Roll of Honour is Victor Olumuyiwa Abiodun-Roy, a staunch member of the 1956 Set, Carr House, GCIOBA-Lagos Branch, GCIOBA Ideas Group; and an Immediate Past Ex-Officio of GCIOBA. He is the first GCI and one of the few Watford-trained copywriters in Nigeria. Roy as fondly called, is the CEO of VOA Communicates, a reputable company in the advertising industry, the brain behind the award winning Gulder advert in 1993, Cadbury's Dadawa Cubes, Volkswagen series of cars in 1983 etc. He is a member of Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON), TYCOON Consult, Triple AN.

Godfrey Bayour Preware (Grier, 1956) is a professional Diplomat who served at different points at the National Intelligence Agency as the Director-General and Permanent Secretary at Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Labour, and Education between the last six years (1998 - 2003) of his career. In 2004, he was appointed as Nigeria's Ambassador to France. He is a distinguished member of GCIOBA-Abuja Branch, having being honoured with Abuja GCIOBA Distinguished Old Boy Award (ADOBA) in 2003. He was also honoured in 2004 with the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) by the Nigerian Government and the Commander of the Legion of Honour of the Republic of France by the French Government.

The penultimate awardee, also a member of GCIOBA-Abuja Branch, is no other person than Osagie Ehanire (Grier, 1959), a german trained Surgeon. After 16 years of studies, residency and medical practice in Germany, he returned home and was appointed as the Divisional Surgeon at the Western Divison Hospital of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) in Warri, after which he resigned from SPDC to delve into private practice and was a Consultant to NNPC, Westminister Dredging and Schlumberger, and other oil and gas companies. Dr Ehanire was appointed into the cabinet of President Muhammadu Buhari as the Minister of State for Health in 2015, a position he holds till date.

The last but not the least Awardee is Bamidele Makanjuola (Swanston, 1965), a UK trained Chemical Engineer. He had over 31 years stint at corporate settings out of which he spent 21 years as an employee of Vitafoam Nigeria Plc where he retired as Chief Executive Officer in 2012 and has since occupied the position of Chairman (Non-Executive) of the organisation.This COREN registered engineer belongs to many professional bodies such as Nigeria Society of Engineers, Nigeria Society of Chemical Engineers (Fellow), Polymer Institute of Nigeria (Fellow), Institute of Directors, Chemical and Non-Metallic Products Federation (Past President), Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (Past Council Member), Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (Past Council Member), Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry(Past Council Member), Business Club Ikeja (Past President).

The GCIOBA National Merit Award is given to Old Boys of Government College Ibadan in recognition of their outstanding contributions to national development, tremendous achievements and integrity in their professional practice, and proven track record of commitment to their Alma Mater and GCIOBA.
