Oyo State Government awards GCISGB as the Best School Governing Board.

The Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, on Tuesday, 21st of November, 2017 at the University of Ibadan's International Conference Centre, awarded Government College Ibadan School Governing Board (GCI SGB) as the Best School Governing Board in 2017.

The award was in recognition of the outstanding contributions of the Government College Ibadan School Governing Board to the holistic development of education in Government College Ibadan, and the Pacesetter State at large.

It would be recalled that the state government in November, 2016 inaugurated a new model of school management called School's Governing Board (SGB), for 628 public secondary schools in the State. Each School Governing Board was expected to provide management functions, meet performance goals, provide adequate teaching and learning resources, for its school, thereby improving the quality of education and increasing the academic performance of the state's public secondary schools.

The presentation took place during the official launch of the Oyo State Government's #50 Billion Education Trust Fund (ETF), which was graced by the State's Executive Council, Chairman of the Education Trust Fund, Chief Mrs Onikepo Akande (CON) - a former Minister of Industry and
current President, Lagos Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and members of the ETF's Board of Trustees; Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Michael Adeyemo; Oba Rilwan Akinolu of Lagos; Chief Adebayo Akande, Mr Biodun Shobanjo, relevant stakeholders in the State's education sector, and other eminent personalities in the State.

The award was received by Mr Banwo Smith, the Chairman of Government College Ibadan School Governing Board ably represented by Prince Remi Adeyemo, a member of GCI School Governing Board. The GCI Principal and Secretary of GCI School Governing Board, Dr B.T. Odekunle, GCIOBA Ibadan Branch Chairman and GCI SGB Member, Engr Femi Babalola, the Secretary of GCI Education Management Foundation Board, Hon. Adeniyi Adeoti; GCIOBA member; Hon. Akin Alli, and some other Old Boys of Government College Ibadan were in attendance to receive the award.

The Award was presented to GCI School Governing Board by Governor Abiola Ajimobi, on Tuesday, 21st of November, 2017 at International Conference Centre, Ibadan.
