Emmanuel Olaniyi Oladeji was born at Abebi, Ibadan on the 25th of January, 1929.

He had his Primary Education at St. Patrick School between 1935 and 1942, after which he emerged as one of the few most qualified students to be admitted to Government College Ibadan in 1944.

He gained admission to GCI in January, 1944 and was in Grier House although he later moved to Carr House in his final year as a foundation student, he became the maiden Head of Carr House.

Upon his departure from GCI in 1949, he attended Public Works Department, PWD Technical School in Lagos for a sandwich course of three years. Thereafter, I proceeded to University of Ibadan for a further study in Engineering, precisely a BSc intermediate (i.e. advanced study of Maths, Chemistry and Physics) before concluding the Degree programme at Queen Mary College, UK - an affiliate of the Engineering School of the University College, London in 1955. Later, he had his post graduate studies in Sanitary Engineering at Deft Technological University, Holland courtesy of a World Bank Scholarship.

His professional career can be dated back to the time he graduated from GCI when he worked as a Bank Clerk at the then Barclays Bank (now First Bank) in Ibadan. After his Sandwich programme at PWD, Lagos; he became a Civil Servant on the 6th of July, 1959 as an Engineering Assistant and was posted at different times to serve in Sokoto and Katsina States' Ministry of Works. After his Post-Graduate studies, he continued with his career in the Civil service as a Water Engineer before he finally retired.

While at GCI, Oladeji was a skillful Footballer, Swimmer and Cricketer, with Cricket Colours which he won at GCI with 51 Runs when GCI defeated Edo College in Benin. He was also an athlete par excellence, who broke a record in High Jump with a 5 Ft Jump; he was humorously thought to have natural springs. He has been an enthusiastic Old Boy of GCI, and graciously used his professional endowment to design and construct a seven star Library for his Alma Mater, adjudged to be the most beautiful Secondary School Library in Oyo State, and he was honored for it with the GCIOBA National Merit Award in 1989.

He married on 29th August, 1959 at UK, and both Engr. E.O. Oladeji and his Young Girl are blessed with three sons (the first two are Old Boys) and two daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is currently adjudged to be the oldest Old Boy of GCI.
