The Memorable Teachers

If you were privileged to be taught by Dr M.A. Soriyan (Maths Teacher, later Vice-Principal), Ambassador Olujimi Jolaoso, OFR aka Jimijoe
(Geography Teacher), Mr A.O. Ogundipe (Physics & Maths Teacher; Housemaster), Mrs P.B. Ogundipe (English Language & English Literature
Teacher) and Dr A.M. Fagbulu (Maths Teacher); you needed to read this short note about each of them.

SOME OF OUR GREAT TEACHERS

1. DR. M.A. SORIYAN
He was a hardworking and dedicated School Teacher. He taught Mathematics in GCI and his Students still remember him as a great motivator. He later became Vice-Principal of the School. He is particularly remembered for his long strides which belied his not too imposing stature. He was very easy going and graceful.

2. AMBASSADOR OLUJIMI JOLAOSO (OFR)
Ambassador Olujimi Jolaoso became 84 in the year 2015, and still counting. He was fondly called “JimiJoe” in his days at GCI. At GCI, his mark of distinction was his wristwatch which he wore on his right hand. This became a fashion with the Boys as they looked up to him as a Role Model.
Government College Boys of his time in GCI remember him most for his brilliance in the Geography Classes, his impeccable dressing for class or sports and his manner of language delivery. He was outstanding.

3. MR. A.O. OGUNDIPE
He taught Physics and Mathematics from 1955 to 1959 to the Senior Classes in GCI and also served as a Housemaster. He was well respected for his mastery of the two subjects and particularly for his commitment to their success. Indeed, his dedication was rewarded year in year out by his students’ resounding success.

4. MRS. P.B. OGUNDIPE
She taught English Language and English Literature at GCI from 1955 to 1958. She was such a master of the language, particularly the diction, that if she were speaking behind a closed door, one felt that an English lady was speaking. She was that at home with the phonetics. She also made English Literature come alive in the classroom through her dramatization of the characters. Poetry! Our Mrs. Ogundipe was simply in her element.

5. DR. A.M. FAGBULU
He hails from Ilesha in Osun State, Southwest, Nigeria. Teaching came naturally to him. His father was a Teacher so he was a born teacher. At GCI, he taught Mathematics in the senior classes in the '50s. As a Housemaster, he impacted positively on the Boys in his charge.

I wish all our teachers many more years in the service of humanity. Thank you for being such fantastic mentors and guardians.
