WELCOME REMARKS BY OLUSEUN ABIMBOLA (1981) - CHAIRMAN ORGANIZING COMMITTEE OF GCIOBA-IBADAN BRANCH 2017 ANNUAL HOMECOMING LUNCHEON

Distinguished Old Boys,

Welcome to another Annual Luncheon of the GCIOBA Ibadan Branch, our yearly homecoming event of the mother branch.

Over the years, our Annual Luncheon has remained a prime gathering of Old Boys (Ancient and Modern), our Young Girls and guests in a convivial atmosphere of friendship, sharing with nostalgia, memories of life and times in our days back at our Alma Mata. The Annual Luncheon of the GCIOBA Ibadan Branch has continued to attract participation by members, leaders of thought and policy makers by reason of the intellectual presentations by the various invited Guest Speakers sharing their thoughts on selected national issues.

This year again has another distinguished Old Boy, Segun Awolowo Jnr., (1975 Set), the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), as our Guest Speaker. He is charged with the responsibility of promoting Nigerian exports at a time when Nigeria earnestly seeks to diversify its hitherto one product economy. From agricultural produce, to processed raw materials and ultimately finished products, the promotion of made in Nigeria goods holds the promise of positioning the Nigerian economy to hit the global market with bigger impact, and we all need to explore how to engage the process and take advantage of opportunities on the field.

We are honoured to have in our midst the Honourable Commissioner for Trade, Commerce and Cooperatives in Oyo State, Princess Taibat Adeyemi – Agaba, along with the business community in Oyo state, to join the discussion and highlight the opportunities available to all in foreign trade and the export market.

The day however does not end with speeches, but promises loads of entertainment. Savour our ‘made in Nigeria’ cuisine with relish and share an eventful timeout with old schoolmates and friends. Enjoy rib cracking jokes and spin the wheel of fortune at our raffle draw, while listening to evergreen tunes.
