GCI wins the 2016 Quadrangular Hockey Competition in grandstyle

The Quadrangular Hockey Competition which was the fourth since inception in 2012 was hosted by Government College Ibadan between Thursday, 17th and Saturday, 19th of November, 2016.

The participated teams were International College of Arts, Sciences and Technology, ICAST, Ibadan, Lead City High School, Jericho, Ibadan and St. James School, Osogbo, Osun State.

Government College Ibadan having defeated St. James School, Osogbo and ICAST, Ibadan, emerged as the winner, first of its kind for the School in the history of the competition

The grand finale of the competition was on Saturday, 19th November, 2016 and had in attendance the Acting General Manager and Director of Organisation of Oyo State Sports Council, Mr Gboyega Makinde and Mr Ojelowo respectively, alongside other members of OYSSC. The Ogun State Hockey Association Chairman - Dr Cyril Osigwe, Secretary of Oyo State Hockey Association, Mrs Olaitan Akinola, and the Director of Sports, Lead City University, Ibadan - Mrs Lade Aloba among many other dignitaries who graced the ceremony.

Yemi Siyanbola, the Hockey Team Coach and an Old Boy of the College dedicated the victory to God Almighty who graciously granted the teams safe trips and injury-free competition.

Medal of Gold Partner were also awarded to distinguished personalities like Hon. Tunde Popoola - Secretary General of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Hon. Abayomi Oke - Oyo State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Hon. Deji Tinubu - Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission, Dr. Olaleye Falore - First National Vice President, GCIOBA, Pastor S.O. Oladele - GCI Principal, Mr Sanjo Ogunkanmi-Jones - UK based GCI alumnus, Mr Gboyega Makinde - Acting General Manager and Director of Organisation of Oyo State Sports Council, Mr Sola Cole -Hockey Coach, Oyo State Sports Council and Engr. Folarin Olujembola - Sponsorship Coordinator and Patron, Oyo State Hockey Association.

The Alumni Association of the host School, Government College Ibadan Old Boys Association Ibadan Branch represented by the Assistant Secretary, Opeyemi Okeleke and the Admin Secretary, Samuel Iseniyi were also at the event.
