GCI 90th Anniversary

Government College Ibadan Old Boys Association celebrated the 90th anniversary of Government College Ibadan in a grand style.

The event which held between October 11th and 19th, 2019 started with a Boat Cruise in Lagos on Saturday, 11th October, 2019 and a Drama Presentation (titled ''Folly of Men" - An Adaptation of Wole Soyinka, Femi Osofisan and Bode Sowande's plays) and Recognition of GCI Literary scholars on Sunday, 12th October, 2019 at Prof. J.F. Ade Ajayi Auditorium, UNILAG. The celebrations continued with a Public Lecture (titled "Resolving Nigeria's Energy Challenges") and Academic Award Ceremony on Wednesday, 16th October, 2019 at Prof. J.F. Ade Ajayi Auditorium, UNILAG; and Lunch with GCI Boys and also a repeat of the drama presentation at Lalekan Are Hall, Government College Ibadan, Apata, Ibadan on Thursday, 17th October, 2019.

The penultimate day of Anniversary week, Friday, 18th October, 2019 had the Old Boys Association visit the less privileged at Oluyole Chaysire Home in the morning and Novelty Cricket Match between the GCI students and Old Boys at the GCI Main Pitch in the evening. The grand finale took place on Saturday, 19th October, 2019 at the school grounds with events ranging from AGM, Sing Song, Thanksgiving/Memorial Service, Commissioning of Projects, Luncheon and Merits Award Ceremony.

Seven Old Boys {T.S.B. Aribisala (137, Swanston, 1932), Ifedayo Olawole Oladapo (542, Carr, 1948), Chukwukadibia Benedict Enwonwu (187A, Swanston, 1934), Akinola Timothy Aguda (308, Swanston, 1939), Olujimi Oladipupo Akinkugbe (485, Swanston, 1946) Akinwande Oluwole Soyinka (482, Swanston, 1946) and Babafemi Adeyemi Osofisan (1100, Field, 1959)} who have exemplified themselves in their various disciplines and conferred with the highest award in the academia, that is the Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM) which is an award conferred on distinguished academicians and intellectuals who have made outstanding contributions to the academic, growth and development of Nigeria. GCI has contributed seven of the seventy-six distinguished Nigerians, a feat yet unmatched by any school.
