F.S. OLAFIMIHAN

PRINCIPAL (1974 - 1976)

Mr. F.S. Olafimihan succeeded Chief J.B.O. Ojo as Principal on August 20, 1974.

He was a keen sportsman (and later became an active member of the Ogun State Sports Council). He often personally led students in jogging to the Library Stadium during the Athletics session. He initiated and personally supervised the clearing of the premises around the house grounds down to the school main gate. Some of the cleared grounds were developed as playing fields for the students.

Sporting activities apart, he paid a lot of attention to the academic performance of the students and iron discipline was the watchword. To the senior boys, he drew a "menu" in which poetry and classical literature was offered as first course every other day before breakfast. To some who did not quite like Literature, it caused them indigestion every other day.

Mr Olafimihan was Principal at GCI for only about a year and he will be remembered particularly by the Form IV Boys in 1975 for the essay titled "A line must be drawn somewhere" which he gave them to write as punishment for a committed offence. The best of the write-up was actually a line!

Mr Olafimihan was responsible for re-defining and effectively protecting the boundary of the school by building a part block and chain link fence round the whole school.
