STATUS:

Stephen Abayomi Faderin, born on the 8th of September 1955, was admitted to Government College Ibadan in 1972 (Field House) to study for his A Levels. During this two -year period, he represented the school in state-wide quiz competitions organised by the then Western State Government and was an avid Tennis player.

Upon completion of his A Levels, he was admitted to the University of Lagos in the Department of Mass Communication. Following his graduation, he joined CFAO Nigeria PLC in the Corporate Affairs Department, where he produced and edited the company’s first information brochure in 1980.

He was however not destined to remain for more than four years in his chosen career as he was nominated by management for training in and posting to the commercial side of the business in 1984, taking up his first assignment in this field as Product Manager in Electro-Hall, one of the company’s subsidiaries. Promotion followed shortly after by way of appointment as Deputy General Manager of CFAO Nigex, a company specialising in produce export, for two years and CFAO Motors, a much larger concern as International Tenders Manager and eventually Deputy General Manager.

Following his successful spells in management, he was sent for various further training in management, finance and marketing most of which took place in PPR Universite in France. In 1995, he received his first General Manager posting to CFAO Electro-Hall, then a medium sized subsidiary, which he built from a relatively small 5 branch activity into a flourishing 17 branch company operating all over the country. This performance was acknowledged by an appointment to the board of directors of the CFAO Group in 1998, where corporate governance was added to his portfolio.

His next appointment was as Managing Director of CFAO Motors in 2000, a period that coincided with considerable depression in the auto industry and was an extremely testing period for the company. Under his leadership, the company returned to profitability and established his reputation as something of a fixer of loss-making companies.

Inevitably, this led to his appointment as Managing Director of Nigeria Motors Industries and shortly after, the Managing Director of Dumex Industrial, the manufacturer of the popular Maltex Malt drink both of which were returned to profit within a year. He was in 2010 appointed as Group Deputy Managing Director with additional responsibility for the group’s Human Resources a responsibility he also assumed concurrently with being the Managing Director of Nigerian Ball-Point Pen Industries (manufacturers of BIC pens and razors) as well as CFAO General Import.

Steve was appointed as Group Managing Director in 2011, the first and only Nigerian to attain this position in the Group’s 116 year history in Nigeria. He retained this position till December 2016 when he voluntarily retired from the company. He also remains the Chairman of Nigerian Ball-point Pen Industries.

Steve is married to Helen, his life-long partner and has two children, Stephanie and Richard.
