Mr. Edward Olaolu Akerele holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the City University, London and an MBA in Export Management & International Banking from the City University, London. Prior to his tertiary education, he gained admission to the prestigious Government College Ibadan in 1971 for his secondary education and was quartered in Field House.
He has over 21 years working experience in the banking industry, starting in 1982 with the Nigerian American Merchant Bank Ltd., where he rose to the position of Officer, Credit & Marketing. He got his formal credit training in Bank of Boston in the USA.
In 1988, he joined Grindlays Merchant Bank of Nigeria Ltd., and was at various times Manager, Senior Manager, General Manager, Credit & Marketing, and Operations Departments up till 1998. He was seconded to Stanbic Bank, South Africa in 1993 to develop market penetration of strategy into Nigeria. He joined Trust Bank of Africa Ltd (Merchant Bankers) in 1998 as General Manager, Corporate Banking.
He left Trust Bank in 2000 into the private business of Consulting. He later went back into banking industry where he joined Universal Trust Bank Plc., in 2002 as General Manager, Corporate Banking in charge of Lagos & West Regions. He left in 2005 to run Ecofin (Financial Markets) Ltd., (EFML). Ecofin is a financial services company that provides bank training in Credit and Treasury, Strategic Planning, as well as Lease Financing.
His areas of core competence are in Credit Analysis, Investment Analysis, Emotional Intelligence and Strategic Planning.
He is an alumnus of the prestigious Columbia Business School, N.Y, USA, where he attended the Executive Management Programme.
He is currently the Chairman of Government College Ibadan Old Boys Association, Lagos Branch; and also a Past President of The Apapa Club.
he is a recipient of GCIOBA 2022 Lagos branch Luncheon Merit Award.
He is currently the Managing Director/Chief Executive of Ecofin (Financial Markets) Limited, and Ecofin Logistics Limited. The companies are engaged in training and logistics respectively.
