2017 Message From The GCIOBA National President

I am delighted to have another opportunity to address the Old Boys and their Young Girls on the joyous occasion of another Get-together.

I am happy to note that inspite of the daunting challenges confronting our nation - social, political and economic, God has given us the grace to gather as a group to celebrate. I wish you a wonderful year ahead.

You will recollect that over the years we have made relentless efforts to convince the Government of Oyo State to hand over the management of the School to us but to no avail. However, in recent times, the State Government has finally come up with a new policy guideline for Education. The State Government has set up School Management Boards for all Secondary Schools in the State including GCI. The Chairman of the GCI Board is Banwo Smith (1959) - a Trustee of the Association.

The Boards have been inaugurated and they have commenced operation. 12 Scholarships have been awarded to deserving students on the platformof DJB Foundation.

GCI has suffered a lot of neglect from the State Government, hence our concerted effort for its restoration. The restoration project will require our urgent financial intervention. We have thus set up a GCI Educational Foundation which we have registered with CAC, and we have resolved to raise #250 million to support the restoration project. Each Branch is expected to donate #5million to the Fund while each Class Set will pay #2million.

I implore you all to support the Foundation so that we can restore the fortunes of the School.

I cannot but remind also the Branches and the Class Sets of their obligations in their annual dues which assist us to run the Association effectively. I wish you a prosperous 2017.

Biodun Jolaoso,
National President, GCIOBA.
